History: (source Wikipedia)
The is an interesting story behind the naming of this place. It is said that the great sage Manu, visited this place during the great floods. He was not able to cross the Rohtang Pass, so he settled and meditated at a place where current city of Manali(meaning the adobe of manu) is located. AT that time the last human settlement he saw was Kullu, so he named it “Kulant Peeth” which means “the end of habitable world”.
