Things to do in Dalhousie

 

Dalhousie is one of the popular hill stations of India and is included in most Himachal Pradesh tour packages. Dalhousie is located in the Chamba district of Himachal pradesh. It is more popular among the tourists coming from Pathankot and Amritsar side. In this article we will be sharing some of the things to do in Dalhousie.

  • Garam Sadak:

Garam Sadak is basically the Mall road of Dalhousie and is situated near the main market of Gandhi Chowk. Therefore, Gandhi Chowk & Garam sadak are the places where you want to go for shopping activities. It is the main market of Dalhousie and therefore is the most busy part of the town.

  • Kalatop Wildlife sanctuary: 

The Kalatop wildlife sanctuary is a peaceful trekking trail in the jungle away from the city. The trail ends at the forest rest house in the sanctuary. Vehicles can also enter the Sanctuary for which the entry fees is charged (approx – Rs 250-300 as on June 2019). Open timings for this sanctuary is 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

There is a road that enters this sanctuary however, the best way to visit this sanctuary is by walking. Also there is a track towards Khajjiar from Kalatop Wildlife sanctuary for which permission from the Forest Department is required.

  • Sathdhara Falls:

Sathdhara is a small beautiful waterfall situated above Panjpula. You can enjoy fast food at small outlets available near the waterfall. This is a perfect place for spending some peaceful time in the lap of nature.

  • Dainkund Peak:

The Dainkund peak has 360 degree views of the Himalayan ranges from the top. One can also see the Khajjiar Lake from the Dainkund. It is one of the highest peaks near Dalhousie. 

The top is only reachable by trek. The trek starts near the Alha village and from the point where vehicles can be taken last it is a 2 Km trek. Locals use this trail to visit the Pohlani Mata Temple situated on the top. This is one of the easy but very beautiful treks near Dalhousie.

  • Khajjiar Lake:

Surrounded by a dense pine forest, Khajjiar is a meadow which has a beautiful lake in the middle. Khajjiar is one of the most famous places to visit in Dalhousie. Adventure activities like Zorbing are also available in Khajjiar. The place is named after the Khajji Nag temple situated here. Its beauty and peaceful atmosphere makes a visit to Khajjiar one of the most preferred things to do in Dalhousie.

  • St. Francis Church:

This is one of the most beautifully situated churches in Dalhousie. The St. Francis Church is surrounded by trees which adds to the beauty of the place. It was built in the year 1894 a few years after the St. John’s church.

  • Panjpula:

Panjpula is situated at a distance of 3 kms from General Post office Dalhousie. It is one of the most popular picnic spots near Dalhousie. There are a number of Adventure activities available here like Zip-lining, Rock Climbing, Burma Bridge, Rappelling, & River Crossing. Panjpula is also famous for the highest Ziplining spots in Himachal Pradesh.

  • St. John’s Church:

The St. John’s Church built in 1863 is one of the most visited churches in Dalhousie. This church features glass paintings of Saints John & Saint Peter. It is the one of the oldest churches of Dalhousie and holds a special place in the history of the city.
